I thought Rocky Butte was the air raid shelter, but that's Kelly Butte. I also need to revisit Powell Butte, but I have a weird history with that place. I made a long post once about cliffs I've fallen off of and that was a location.

I've had a map with details about Rocky Butte saved to my desktop for over a year, but didn't read some of the text until today. I noped out of one path because I saw too many signs of possible human habitation. I finally looked at the map to try to figure out where I'd been and what the markers I passed were for. Turns out, Friends of Rocky Butte do no recommend solo hiking there due to people living along those trails. One should bring a hiking partner or dog, and packages of socks or other items to 'offer in cordiality'. I did not have a hiking partner, pooch or safe passage offering. I want to go to the part called Mycelium Meadows

From the surrounding area to the top is about a 400 foot elevation change, and I did that slightly more than twice with what trail wandering I did do. I need to test if I can still tank 1k elevation changes, but I got decently close to that today without realizing it.

Within the city I usually just fling myself places and explore. For buttes, I need to do a bit more research ahead of time... especially since the first butte hike I did in Portland ended with the whole cliff thing.
