Portland Winter Light Festival
Feb. 6th, 2021 01:41 pmI didn't plan on going on a photowalk last night but things were supposed to be purposely on fire near me.
I went and they weren't as firey as planned. They were trying to fix that with a propane fueled blowtorch:

I usually give the Light Festival a big miss. Every year a few images go viral so it gets swamped with very, very aggressive photographers. Most of the viral photos turn out to be by people with press access, not the regulars. It's usually in a small part of downtown and so crowded that it has more NYC Train Station at rush hour vibes rather than the rom com first date vibes in the photos. Last year's was cancelled, and I don't know what they are doing about the downtown bits this year but I am not going near it. There are some satellite sites this year, but they are very spread out. Hitting up a few meant walking about 4 and a half miles last night, and some where just like 'rope lights in a circle being stared at by a group of drunk cyclists'.
Anyway, I got a few shots and I do hope to reshoot the flamey thing when it is properly on fire. I don't know how many satellite sites I'll be able to hit. My feet at a little dead from carrying a tripod and more lenses than usual.
