See how the light on the ground has a digital look? When Portland does have street lights they are LED ones that create a very harsh dappled effect that is impossible to work with. It also looks like a shadow layer in a video game instead of reality... or like an effect from a shadowing brush or stamp in a digital art program. In this case, the light source was far enough away that it didn't mess up the shot, it actually make a cool background.
... when I am not struggling with lack of streetlights I am usually struggling with the presence of street lights.

I don't usually shoot anything mass produced, but I love this with my whole heart. I hate gnomes. For some reason, amazing, creepy, hand-made art projects in yards wind up also having cheap plastic gnomes. Since I do not mess with people's yards, even if I suspect someone else just tossed the plastic trash in there, I need to try to work around the gnomes. The reason why my angles some creepy yard arts are so odd is because I am trying to avoid bright, primary colored gnomes in the shot.
( And a few more pics )
