I went downtown to run some errands. You know when is a really bad time to realize that your shoes no longer have any tread? On wet, slippery bricks and marble of the Pioneer Square / Bus Mall section of Portland. My feet kept slipping. In SE Portland all the roads and concrete are rough and I had zero problems. Today, I kept slipping. I managed to deal with it, tho. By 'deal with it' I meant I bought new shoes ASAP and tossed my old ones in the trash.
I have balance issues, so having my feet slipping is not good.
Then I took the bus up to Killingsworth for more of my project to map complete Portland. So, that is how I wound up walking 5 miles in new shoes today.
I checked my other shoes at home and my other pair of daily walking shoes also lacks all tread and has a hole in the soul.
I'd hoped to pick up maps to start tracking what I have and haven't walked, but the place didn't have the maps I was after. I really need to get some soon.
