Buckaroo Banzai's Room

Ever work on something so long people can tell which parts are new because they are better drawn? I've been fussing with composition issues and other things with this room ... forever. I went in and fixed some of the older linework, but didn't redraw whole areas.

Some parts I am very happy with. And now I can move onto the next room which has a different layout, that'll make a nice break.

The other pieces in this project are here. They are all done to the same scale even though it doesn't seem like it. Tommy's bed is just HUGE and his couch is very deep for reasons and I did the inking on Rawhide's room kinda chonky.

I love this! There are so many details: the books, the yukata (or kimono?), the plant pots. I was smiling in delight.

It's meant to be a kimono. I'm sure he does have yukata as well, but the thought was that it's a displayed heirloom kimono. I should probably have had it a bit higher up on the wall, oh well :)

That makes sense! (I'm unfamiliar with the character, sorry! But now that I think of it, I should have assumed kimono.)
The height matches the scroll on the other wall, so there's nice balance that way.

Yeah, these being fanart makes them way more complicated to plan than just doing cozy or Japanese-themed rooms. I looked at a lot of isometric rooms and I think most people who do them solve all their composition problems with cats, which is cute but doesn't quite work here. Way too much effort went into picking details like the scrolls have art by print maker Shin Hanga, a few things are visual references to the film, etc.

I also drew an actual Go board showing a mid game position and then couldn't use it because the detail was lost when re-sized. Hopefully the other rooms will go faster!
