Almost Paradise has been renewed. In good news, I called it. I had literally said online a few days ago that no way was Dean going to let the project go, despite Covid, the sound stage they used getting leveled and the island they filmed having sustained heavy damage due to typhoon Odette. Not sure what the S2 plan is going to be. Dean and Christian Kane were literally on the last flight out of the Philippines Pre-Covid.

Dean has had a lot of projects come together recently. It's cool to see.

The downside is that there is literally only one episode of Almost Paradise S1 I can recc watching. It's a mess. I really hope S2 tightens up.

I am also curious to see how they deal with CK having long hair now. If they don't give Alex a L'oreal commercial worthy hair reveal It'll be a shame. And I will watch S2. If I can make it through the S1 pilot, I can make it through anything.

The things I watch for him. I made it through The Donner Party even though that's a film that was supposed to be a serious art film about hope, got re-cut into a horror film for distribution and also CK broke his leg while filming. He's like standing on era snowshoes, leaning against a tree and saying his lines. It's... boring. It's not 'so bad it's good' it's just droning. If it had been a trainwreck it would be so much better. Stories about the film are entertaining, the actual film ... ehh...

A horror film about the Donner Party with both CK and Claine Crawford should be the absolute best thing in the world for a target audience of me, but no. Somehow, no.

Haha, that Donner Party one sounds so dire. I wouldn't have thought you could make that one boring! Reminds me of all the dire indie flicks Viggo Mortensen was in early in his career.

Super serious art film made into horror film with them should be so good, on paper it's so good. In reality it's so bland.

Jeez, that sounds like the kind of thing that I would love... but it sounds like... no. Bummer.

And bummer about Almost Paradise... I hope that it improves! I haven't actually heard of that show, but that's not terribly surprising.

Almost Paradise was Dean's dream project for ten years to do a show fully shot in the Philippines, with all the cast and crew local except for one of the 3 leads. They literally went from filming the last shot the last plane out of the country.

The show has a lot going for it, including that Kane's co-stars are phenomenal. But the actual scripts/plots are so bad I don't know how to even describe them. I'd sound like I was being overly harsh for comedic effect.

The whole point was to show where his family's from without it being 'poverty porn' (his words) or tragic... but now they've had the pandemic and Cebu's been trashed, so it'll be interesting to see what they do for a second season.

Also, it's the 3rd installment of Dean Devlin casts CK in a trio of some sort. I mean....

It's a shame that it sounds like the writing lags so badly when the show has a lot going for it otherwise. :/ That sucks. I hope they're able to improve that for the second season.

But jeez, having to jump on the last flight out of the country is some scary timing.

Counting the upcoming seasons for renewed shows, that's 14 seasons of TV with a certain pattern from Dean? Yeah, that's a lot. Not that I am complaining!

I am going to be hopeful that the new season is better. In any case it will be interesting to see how the show handles things.

This is clearly an ongoing theme! Almost a defining one, haha. Also not complaining, lol.

I hope that the weak writing and plotting gets tightened up. Though it sounds like a new season will be a big challenge with how much has happened.
