Okay, everything looks fine. Don't need to learn anything or change how I do things. I do like the new UI to browse icons, but I do need new icons.

Wait, do I no longer need to tap 'update date' every time I post to make sure I'm not accidentally backdated? Maybe?

Edits to add: I left the post open for a bit to see if it would post at time I opened the Post page or when I hit Post. Looks like posting time did not auto-update? Is there a button I am not seeing?

there's a checkbox under Display Date for Use the current time, if that's checked it'll use the time of posting, and if not it'll use either the time of opening the post page or the date/time you set it to

Thanks. The box with that option wasn't there by default, but I found it in settings. I'll test again with my next post.

I like the ability to use markdown. I like having more options for posting format.

I did not play around with the date and time thing, though.

It is! But I've never really gotten a shot of it that I'm fully happy with.

I've used a few versions of markdown over the years. While for people used to a certain form of it, that's great, but it would take me forever as my brain flips through all the markdowns I've used. I would have giving up raw html.

I always need to hit 'update date'. Back in the heyday of El Jay or never occurred to me that my posts were being 'lost' because I wasn't updating the timestamp. Yeah, people were just legit not seeing my posts and I wondered why I felt so invisible. Fortunately, nothing like this ever happened again and I was left with 0 issues from it.

Ah, that makes sense, that various versions possibly conflicting makes it way harder to remember the right syntax. I like that you can still use regular html in the markdown editor, which is helpful - I like how much easier it is to italicize (because I swear that's ALWAYS where I fail to close a tag...) and that I can still use my regular image html, because that's what I remember.

Oof. Yeah, I can see that leaving an... impression. :/ I feel like I remember there being some issues with time zones at some point, where things would post out of order, and certain posts would get buried... but maybe I misunderstood that it was time zones vs. some other issue with the timestamp.

Yeah, markdown just feels like chaos to me. I just want to get in there and do the actual tags. I learned a bit of html once, back in the dark ages, and it's never changed. I like that.

The people who couldn't see me where local, so it wasn't time zones. It's similar to Ao3, where if you put a fic in as draft and post without redating it doesn't show up to people browsing by new because you are back dated. There may also have been a time zone thing I was unaware of

Yeah, clearly not a timezone problem there. But ah. I feel like that (updating the date and time to the actual time of posting) is the sort of thing that should automatically happen!

Updating the time does automatically happen in the new DW posting interface. If you add the box and check it, it stays checked. I like that! Before, even here the listed time of the post was when you opened the tab, not when you hit post. Now, it could still have been putting posts in post order, but the display time was old.

That's good! I'm glad it does happen that way with the new interface!

I may not have noticed much that the post time was listed as when you *started* the post as opposed to when you finished it, even as the autosave updated. I rarely had a posting page open for too long.
Though I think out of caution, if I'd saved a draft earlier, I always copied and pasted it into a new post instead of trying to update the date/time, because I didn't trust it would work the way it should, ha.
