It's like this month doesn't even exist. So many people act like the year is over about three quarters of the way through November. Spotify and Tumblr have done their year-end wrap ups and it sounds like the fandom-on-tumblr numbers might have actually been pulled a few weeks ago to prepare the posts?

Also, I am pretty sure that a lack of consistent ship names is why there isn't a ton more BG3 on the list. Halarion or Bloodbear or Blood and Honey? Or just Astarion/Halsin?

Holiday stuff is happening. I have seen the signs, the clones are again returning. (If that last sentence made no sense, it should be explained by a photo post early next week.)

The clerk who drinks her way through shifts at the local Plaid Pantry decided that I needed one of their extra Coca Cola promotional items as a holiday gift. I buy Diet Coke there when I go on photowalks, so now I have a little stuffed polar bear in a red Coca Cola scarf. She's lovely, but she can't handle working there sober.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like December gets turned into a non-entity. So much end-of-year stuff already having happened really makes this feel like some weird limbo - if the year is already over, what are we even doing now?

I imagine you're right, that the inconsistent ship names may have prevented more BG3 from making it into the numbers... I realize there are downsides (because sometimes fandom uses different ship tags differently on purpose), but sometimes I wish all the incarnations of a ship tag could be treated as synonyms.

The holiday-ing has definitely begun here, too. Though nothing so delightful as the clones!

Aw, the polar bear in scarf sounds cute. But that sucks for the clerk, not that I can fully blame anyone for preferring service industry jobs not-sober.

That race to push out that year-end content stuff feels so... ridiculous. I'm sick of life feeling like a comment section full of people shouting "first!" Christmas commercials by mid-October, "year-end wrap-ups" in November...

And it IS super inaccurate! It leaves out a full month of stuff! Sure, one twelfth of the year won't necessarily skew the statistics THAT significantly... but then again, it might! If something takes off SUPER dramatically in late November/early December? If something that was gaining popularity steadily in September/October/November had an extra month to build more steam?

Yeah, if the content is spread out over 3 tags? More? Descriptive ship name vs. A/B vs. B/A vs. smush portmanteau name...

Yikes. Yeah, that sounds like a rough shift for a rough spot.

That's true! It's not even just December being discarded from the numbers, much of November will be too. And that's a valid point - people do often take time off around the holidays, or spend time with different groups of people, or do things that give them more time to engage with things. It's so silly to cut those parts of the year out!

Weird. My year-end stuff is on December 31 and year-beginning (which includes some wrapup stuff) on January 1. The only stuff where the "yearly" wrapup is earlier is like the Poetry Fishbowl where its last fishbowl is early December and its year-end sale is mid-December (and then I'm lucky if I finish the freaking sponsored posts before the January fishbowl). Rose & Bay Awards run in January precisely so the whole calendar year previous is eligible.
