I've been playing Blue Prince, the new indie puzzle game that is the new hotness. The game is a bit bigger in scope than I first thought. I don't know if I am vibing with it as much as some other people are, but it's good.

I am mostly playing it because I've been sick and trying to read or listen to an audiobook is just not working for my brain right now. Weirdly, being interactive is making it possible for me to concentrate. (Also, if I pause the game pauses, unlike my audiobook that I feel asleep reading and need to find my place in again)

So far, on one hand the RNG aspect is frustrating because you can't direct your runs to focus on progressing a specific thing, but on the other hand I felt like I've gotten something out of every run which is very impressive. One RNG thing that permanently effects the game might have been such a bad roll for me that maybe I should have restarted, but I am trying to muddle through.

There is a puzzle where it takes hours to just get the bits you need to start the solve and... the solution was just a piece of advice about how the game works that I'd already figured out.

But puzzle games are very hard to balance, so even though that felt like a 'drink your ovaltine' moment, it's probably partially due to how my playthrough has progressed so far.

I am just hoping that currently puzzles don't involve too much run there, run back, run there, run back... but the game has been very polished so far so I am hopeful it doesn't turn into that at endgame.
