(no subject)

Did some photowalking last night. It was good to get out, but I don't think I got any keepers. Not bothering to pull the data until after I've been out again. Man, for all the vast folders of creepy Portland stuff I just keep not getting any luck with finding Halloween decor that isn't like bits of cheap plastic from a big box store. But, I will find good stuff using my usual method of just walking until I find things. On a related note, I think I am close to wearing out another pair of shoes. I need to keep an eye on that.

Last fall, photowalking was no. The air was orange and the AQ couldn't even measure how had it was. It was literally off the charts. Last night was good due to rain, but we are still getting a few nights where overnight the air quality just takes a huge drop. There were a few nights when I was going to go walking, until I check the AQ. So, this time of year is the season I have the least pictures of. Having the least pictures of fall / Halloween? Yeah, that can't stand. Hopefully, I'll be out again tonight.

I only know him from one gif, but it's an interesting study in what rampant content theft can do to a creator.

* 12 Tone's video on Wayward Son

12 Tone breaks down music down very thoroughly and the videos are aimed at everybody, no music theory knowledge required. Most of his videos make me think I understand music ... for at least as long as the video lasts. Wayward Son is pretty complicated in terms of musical structure, though. The video didn't quite leave me feeling quite as solid on the song as his videos usually do. Still it's got a lot of good insights into the the iconic song that Supernatural fans love.

Also, it's fall and despite myself fall makes me want to watch SPN or at least listen to Wayward Son while looking at a few season 1 gifs. I didn't even watch past season 7 ... or 9? It was it season 32? I watched exactly one episode of the final season and anyone familiar with SPN and me can guess which.

* Someone Dead Ruined My Life... Again

The CGP Grey video on the name Tiffany. An incredibly validating video for anyone who has ever done serious research/sourcing. No, most info isn't online and a LOT that is lives on databases behind paywalls that the average netizan doesn't even know exist. 100% of what I learned about research in college was searching databases I lost access to when I graduated and that no average person would shell out for private access to.

Especially after some of my recent research projects, this felt so good to watch.

* UrbEx of a Carnival Cruise Ship Being Dismantled

It has drone shots that don't suck or endanger people! (I have thoughts on drones.) A number of older cruise ships are being scrapped right now due to the industry slowdown. Cruise ships cost a lot to maintain, so if they aren't in constant use they become a huge money drain. This is photography and drone footage of one of the ships being dismantled.
