Oct. 13th, 2023 01:57 amEarlier today I realized Nano was coming up and went to check how many words it is. For the first time, that didn't seem like an insane word count to me. It seemed do-able, but I never get anything out of trying it. The people who run the official PDX group are... [writes and deletes a few descriptions] uh, just, no. They are no. The alternate group run vie meetup keeps being piles of fail. Joining groups with people I know, like people who've been to the same cons I have, no one interacts past day 1.
And then tonight the online writing group I am in decided to do Nano as a group, so I guess I am suddenly doing Nano! Basically, we did a poll and most people said 'wasn't planning on it, but if the group is doing it I'm in'.
So, what to do? I have a few bigger projects I could slot into this. The projects I am most prepared to tackle are fanfic projects. I'd feel kinda okay doing a Stranger Things project, I might feel off doing something more obscure like Leverage. An orig project is tempting because that Legends and Lattes book that everyone was reading last year was a Nano project that got discovered and went viral. Even if that really was as much as a 'person is success out of nowhere' story as the articles say, my stuff would never do that. But, still, it does make doing an original project tempting... but for irrational reasons.
Possible things I could do:
* My werewolf horror novel that I am honestly not really ready to tackle yet, but kinda want to for Nano since I am doing Nano
* Take on the Steddie werewolf longfic I really want to write.
* Totally pants a paranormal investigations origfic, ignoring years of iterating on idea and just writing something.
* Something else?
I have a few other fanfic projects I could do, but they all feel like they are going to come in at about 20k words. I could lump a few together. We are not being very rules bound about it.
