In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.
I love Tolkien Extended Canon, the stuff from his letters and the like. Female Elves can't get pregnant unless they want to. Consummation = marriage for Elves. Marriages are not far off from soul bonds. Elves can pretty much marry on the fly in times of unrest. There may have been social pressure to have permission or the typical year-long engagement in peaceful times, but traditions can also be ignored.
At-will birth control for the ladies is very nice. Canon soul bonding that pretty much works like 90s fanfic or something out of Mercedes Lackey. What's not to love? Considered how much modern fantasy is either Tolkien fanfic, reactions to Tolkien fanfic or visibily-trying-hard-not-to-be Tolkien fanfic, I wonder if some of the soul bonding trope can be traced back to LOTR, or earlier since Tolkien borrowed from a lot of pre-Victorian lore.
