AKA - two more pictures of the same people in front of the same backdrop.
This morning I had to choose between the Flanaverse panel, the local ghosts panel and the horny books panel. I hated to choose, but I'd been doing author panels all weekend so I went with Horny on Main:

N. E. Davenport, Aiden Thomas, Gabriella Buba, Isa Agajanian, Casey McQuiston, Rachel Gillig
I enjoyed the panels and didn't really expect them to enlighten me about writing, but this was probably the best talk about writing. They talked a bit about using dick versus cock, and if the word choice didn't fit the vibe it feels off. N. E. Davenport talked about how cock is rarely used in POC spaces she's in, so using it can make a book feel like it's written by an outsider, but also she feels pressure to vary word choice so she uses it. It's that or skirt around needing to use a word, use 'it', etc.
Aiden's a fan of dick being casual, but once things get intense then you use cock.
For all the talk of good words and terms for body parts and bad, prick never came up, which was odd to me because I see it a lot in fanfic at least.
How The Pros Do It

Scalzi, Kingfisher, Aoki, Anders
Turned out to mostly be about keeping to a writing habit or not. Still fun.
And that was the end of the con. Glad I went, even if I hoped it would be more social this time around. Three of the presenting authors were trans and there were a lot of visible trans people there. With everything going on, that's soothing. Still sucks to be alone with no community, but yeah, experiences like that are still good.
Something about being on my phone between panels at a con felt like an echo of fifteen years ago. Not sure if in a good way or bad, but it just is

Date: 2025-09-08 03:02 am (UTC)From:Picking the right words for sex scenes is definitely a struggle, and I'm glad it's a struggle that we can all apparently agree on! (Though seconding confusion that "prick" wasn't even presented as an option.)
I'm glad you had a good time, and I'm happy for trans authors being featured.
