I had a free day and the cat is being boarded to cover the gap in her home care so I ran out to Central Oregon to do some hiking. Basically an extended day trip because I drove out at night, had a day, stayed and then came home early to get some stuff done during work hours.
I am working through my pictures, but in the meantime have a picture of one of the roads in the area I was driving:
I honestly think the driving wore me out more than the 2 hikes at roughly 6.5k feet elevation did. I was going to sneak in an early on before going back to Portland, I wanted to skip Bend morning traffic anyway, but Oregon roads sometimes... It took me over an hour to go ten miles on 9720 because of how bad it was and the guys in the big pick up trucks were going the same speed as me.
More for next time I guess. I couldn't go into the lava caves anyway because I was wearing shoes that had been in other caves. One of the biggest threats to bats is humans cross-contaminating caves with fungus, but next time I will bring extra shoes. Anyway, more soon!
