I really should have done this sooner. Between the earthquakes, the government shutdown and my migraines I kept putting this off. The tricky bit, Kantishna, was booked. So, I put off the rest.
Now Hotels.com is being all 'look at all these sold out hotels we wont let you book!'. Why, hotels.com? Why show me what I can't book?
I've also had a bit of trouble booking the train. I am going to linger at the entrance to Denali NP longer than I'd planned. I can roll with this, tho.
I am about half booked. I need to decide if I am going to do anything in Fairbanks or just head home. Booking stuff is such a logistical puzzle at times.
Because some of these areas are remote and transportation is a problem, a lot of bookings come with meals I can't eat. At some point I am going to do a tally of all the meals I am buying that I can't eat, and double occupancy rooms I am in solo.
[editing to add] I can't do any of these guided hikes as a solo traveler? Being solo is why I wanted to join a group. I can't do some of the activities in Fairbanks booking for one and now I can't do this damn guided hike in Seward? The minimum wasn't anywhere in the info or details, it popped up when I went to pay. ffs...
I don't typically do any tours or group things, but it seemed like a good idea to do some stuff with a guide up there. But nope. They wont sell me a ticket on my lonesome.
[edit 2] Yup, should have booked this sooner. One of my hotels is a wee bit out of the way in an area with no ground transportation. I will be there two nights due to when I had to book trains. I guess that will be a sleep day. Not terrible, but if this one room wasn't available I'd, uh, I'd be in trouble.
Phew. All booked. That was exhausting just to book. Tomorrow I get to review everything and make sure I didn't accidentally mess anything up. Also, I need to call a few places and just double check details.
