More and more weather models agree with 'over 110' for the weekend so I am feeling less silly about pan... impulse buying a ticket out of here. I've hiked in 115 heat, but there is a difference between open desert and a wet valley. It's not just the wet, deserts cool off at night. Valleys trap things like smoke, volcanic fallout, heat, smoke, carbon monoxide, etc. I love it when people move here to live in healthier environment. It's like you don't know jack about the area's history or the basic physics of valleys.

Last heatwave we blew like 12 transformers and part of the city had no power for like a week.

I am packing very little. I'm just buying a few touristy T shirts at the airport in Maine since I need more clothes anyway. The big question is, to bring the laptop or not? My laptop is a big, heavy, gaming one. I get wrist problems with smaller laptops. If I bring it, I can be a lot more productive. But this chonker doesn't actually fit well in most of my bags. I usually pack very light, but I feel weird about not having my computer when I am gone on such short notice.

Enjoy the trip! I don't blame you at all for wanting to escape those temperatures. (And everything else.)

I would bring the laptop, because I *hate* being without my laptop, though half the time I lug it with me I don't wind up using it, so my advice should be taken with several grains of salt.

I think that an escape (ESPECIALLY after the last year of bullshit) would be a very good thing.

A Dunkin Donuts just opened an enormous location that's dangerously close to my route between home and work. I've never actually been in one, but it's only been open a few days and it's taunted me for every single one. (But Alex never wants to stop, lol.)
