I had popcorn for the first time in two years last night. I don't normally like popcorn, but it had been so long that I loved it. So fresh and toasty. I bought some to see my first new release film since the whole ... yanno thing started. And I saw that new release film at home because I will always pay extra to not go to a movie theater. I got HBO Max for a month to see the new The Suicide Squad.
I knew vaguely they were making a new one to pretty much replace the old, but having names so close is confusing to me.
I decided to see it mostly because it has King Shark.
I thought it was crap. I was surprised that it seems to be broadly well received. Some of the jokes were good. The ending was ... beyond predictable. I did not see a single trailer, but I knew the opening was a fake out based on having seen one single movie poster.
It did a great job of turning a certain trashy comic book edginess into a film. In that specific way, the film was amazing. I guess it's a great film for a specific niche audience, but I am not in that niche.
