I've rewatched The Matrix Trilogy!

It was very weird to rewatch because the movie has not only been visually referenced and memed to death, but I realized that I'd heard the movie quoted more than I realized. It's really hard to separate the film from it's cultural impact. For a good 15 minutes I wasn't sure if I'd seen the 3rd film before, or had just seen the trailer / gifs / visual references to the point where it seemed familiar.

I don't currently have any deep thoughts on it, but I do have a theory on what's going to be going on in the 4th film. I've only seen the trailer, tho, so maybe the plot is already known and my theorizing is silly.

Watching the matrix after a really long time is indeed its own experience. I rewatched it with my partner at the beginning of the year and as you put it, the pop culture outreach it has is kind of impressive, so many things turn out to be a matrix reference after all.

Do you intend to keep up with all the trailers? My game plan is trying to go in as blind as possible for the fourth one.

Yeah, I'm curious how someone who has never seen them might react to The Matrix.

I prefer going into movies cold if possible. I have the best experience if I haven't seen trailers or been following information. But I also run transmediaclub and like to post about trans / trans related canons. So, I might follow info a bit just to have things to post over there.

Something tells me we'll see how the new people react to the movies very soon, since the gen z might catch up onto it with this new release. And it sounds like you will be trying to keep up a delicate balance so good luck with that! I would love to see the movie carrying on the underlying trans themes as well, but we'll see what happens.

I am betting on some bizarre takes, just because their POV will be such an odd one. I keep hoping OSP or Matt Baume will cover the films... because honestly a lot of the current YT videos out there are bizarre.

For something like The Matrix, I do think it's a real struggle to separate it from the cultural influence it had. Which is pretty cool in a way! Like, damn, for one film to have been THAT influential is pretty impressive.

But it's true, there are so many quotes and scenes and concepts that get referenced in so many different places.

I really will have to rewatch them. I'm glad you had a chance to!
