* I went to a queer craft fair at a beer cart. Lots of things had the word queer on it and no one fainted! Just in case anyone needs an antidote to how weird the online teens are about the word. It's so commonly used here that people would look at me like I was crazy if I said it was controversial.

* I love the investigative journalism in this town. Contrary to overly-popular belief, shrooms aren't actually legal here. A store is selling them anyway, on Burnside. Burnside! (It's basically our main e/w road.) They have a billboard, again, on MFing Burnside. It's been there for a bit. A photo of the billboard was posted to reddit... and now suddenly there are news stories.

Could be worst. We used to have a 'reporter' who would literally just copy/paste full sentences from the subreddit and them threatened to dox us when people complained too much.

Cool stickers.

No offense to teenagers, but they do not know everything, and need growth and maturity to be able to understand the nuances of life. Why are they so offended by everything these days though? I was quite the opposite at that age!

It's so weird. A lot of the LGBTQIA+ centers in major cities in the US, like this one, are queer centers, or Q Centers where the Q is explicitly meant to be 'queer' because it's inclusive. It's become this weird intense 'don't hurt poor little me' drama online.

Maybe they're addicted to the drama. They seem to be offended by everything these days, like the ridiculous "if one person in a couple is 30 and the other is 40 it's pedo!" stuff. They are such prudes. Luckily I'm not active in spaces with all that and I just hear what everyone else relates.

Yeah, maybe they are just trying to be all 'you need to do things our way!' It's just... such an annoying and stupid thing to pick. It's like we had one collective term that didn't cause drama and they honed in on it.

There has been major drama over writers using 'the q-slur' without warning for it in some fandom.

They all love to call people fruity, think gay panic sounds cute, but freak out over queer.

I love that queer sticker, which I would 100% have also bought! And I love the he/him one! And I really, really love the feathers - corvids of all kinds are my favorites.

The thing about the mushrooms being openly advertised is quite funny. Though BIG eyeroll about the "reporter."

They had 78 pronoun and flag combos in a binder. It was nice to have backgrounds that weren't pastel!

I wonder how it's going to shake out. Yesterday the place had a line a few blocks long because people want to buy while they can. I can't get over them having a billboard on Burnside... For context the city is divided by a river and Burnside is the main way to get into downtown Portland.

The fact that it's like, openly being advertised along the main drag is pretty hilarious to me, haha. I do hope that no one gets screwed over too badly (even if it wasn't legal, and even if they weren't hiding it, lmao.)

It's a mess, but it's also so charmingly Portland.

Kids these days don't know, but the reason why Voodoo Donuts is a big cultural icon of Portland is not because of 'lol cereal on donuts' it's because they had stuff like nyquil glazed donuts with tums or pepto bysmol filling as hangover cures. All the bands coming through Portland in the 90s used to take pictures of themselves with the signature pink box because of that, or because of the cock and balls donuts, not because they were wacky enough to put captain crunch on a donut. Their image has been so cleaned up.

Yes! I was surprised that a lot of people DON'T know that there were some actual edges to the Voodoo Donuts stuff, not just "tee hee quirky! voodoo doll shapes and cereal!"

We have a Voodoo Donuts location in Denver now (maybe more than one?) but I've never been to it! We visited the one in Austin when Taylor's company had a trip there.

Yeah, there is also a Voodoo at some theme park as well, I think Universal. It's been a cleaned up tourist attraction for a while. Locals eat Pip's donuts.

It has been SO sanitized, and now the only "weird" thing about it is that it's "quirky." but I can get cereal on donuts in the grocery store bakery

Someone at the coffee shop we stopped at this morning had a voodoo donuts box this morning, and the coincidence made me laugh.
