* My Christmas fic, which I renamed to Three Christmases just to make it clearer that it's just showing just that part of Steve's year, is done and edited. It's 3 chapters, that I'll post every few days. It's over 8k. It's a Steddie fic, but it that doesn't come in until later and you see more of his relationships with Dustin and Robin. Three Christmases.

* And I have good progress on the story I am writing for Fandomtrees. See, I am not all talk about getting a lot more work out this year! I may yet wrap 3 things this month.

* My rice is broken, that is the only explanation. I make a lot of rice. With my allergies, rice has been a staple of my diet for decades. Every batch I've made from this bag had turned out bad. The most recent batch became soup at the the bottom and is crunchy on top. It's just not taking water evenly. I should buy a new bag, but what if it's got the same problem? ugh... I bought a few bags of that stupidly overpriced precooked rice that comes in little nukable bags for now. I guess I need to walk to where I can buy a different brand, see if that helps.

I know how to make rice. I was so careful with this last batch. I'll probably force myself to eat about 4 servings before I give up. I hate wasting food but it's gross. I don't know if it's milled wrong or... not ripe? I've never seen anything like this.

* In Guild Wars 2 I am working on a Legendary Weapon that isn't out yet, and isn't technically announced. We are just pretty sure it's happening. If not, a lot of people are going to be very confused and have a lot of questions about some typos in press releases that we don't think are typos. I should be working on medium tier armor or some sigils, but instead I am working on a leggy greatsword. I am doing greatsword because I already have ax, staff, shield, rifle, hammer, heavy armor, amulet, accessories...

In GW2 legendaries don't give a stat increase. They give access to skins/effects and infinite of that item. When I got my legendary hammer I could then access any hammer with any stat set on any character, with any skin I have unlocked, instantly. No matter what is in my inventory, I basically get access to Hammer. And this is why I should be working on my medium armor because I need armor like that for my Engi... but I am working on the Soo Won Legendary Greatsword that I believe will exist.

I know how you feel about wasting food, I'm the same way. If I don't eat something before I have to toss it I won't allow myself to buy more for a long time. Like punishment. LOL. But go ahead and toss that rice! Life is too short to eat crap, and maybe it's not good for you, either? Sounds like it's really got some issues. If food tastes 'weird' or is off somehow, my rule doesn't apply and in the garbage it goes.

Making and eating rice is such a part of my life... It's so confounding. But yeah, I should give up and also find a new brand for a bit. I just feel bad and inept, even though it's not me... it makes no sense but this rice is just not functioning properly.

I saw an amazing video about a guy who explained how rice is different based on where you get it, where the rice is grown/packaged, and how that pertains to whether or not you should wash it before cooking with.

I suspect that maybe you just got a bad batch, and should try again with a different date lot if possible.

I've bought this brand/type for a while. I was eating Calrose for a while, it's what I prefer, but it hasn't been in stock so I've been eating Jasmine. I've just never had anything this baffling happen in a while.

I think some of the rice is breaking down too much and also soaking up the water. It must be a bad batch somehow.

One thing I've noticed more and more of over the last couple of years is that when we stock our grocery shelves, there is a LOT more damaged product inside the case and stuff like boxes not properly glued shut which is a defect at the factory level, not us being careless with the boxes. Which tells me the quality controls at food factories is a lot lower than it used to be. (We are also totally careless with boxes sometimes, but in those cases the case itself is damaged. But more often I am opening a perfectly fine casepack and finding damaged boxes/packages of food inside.)

It would not surprise me at all if the quality of the food itself is lower or at least the quality control of the food is less stringent than it used to be.

Yeah, that's definitely been a thing. In the past two years the amount of food I've gotten home and there was something wrong with it or it just molded the next day has been insane. Meal planning is already spicy with the shortages and price spikes, but the food can also randomly just be inedible.

The rice sounds extremely frustrating. It definitely sounds like there's something up with the batch, though I have no idea what would cause that problem.

Rice should be predictable and easy! I didn't know it could be broken!
