Finished season 1
The whole time I watched this I was like 'This is not a remarkable series, but I hope it gets renewed. A solid ongoing mystery series with very distinct characters, this could turn into something really awesome. They optioned 18 books and only used 3-4 of them.'
The 'big reveal' was clearly telegraphed from the start. It was a shocking twist to the characters, but not the audience. We had the tension of knowing who the Big Bad was, and the character not. Very nice, slow burn tension... A lot of things about this show are rare in TV. I was really vibing with it.
And then they pulled a cheap-ass cliffhanger where the main character get shot in the last few minutes. oh no, will he live? Well, he will if it gets renewed! That cliffhanger undercut everything I liked about the show so, so much. It is officially Not Something I'd Recc.
I took a peek at the subreddit and it seems like this was not in the books. Book readers are very confused as to why they pulled that.
