Teeny haul this week and also I need to reshoot mr. wolf. None of them came out great.

I actually was supposed to so something social last week, but I went and there was a very loud DJ. No one could talk at all, that was the levels of loud. I tried to hang, but couldn't and did a short photowalk after. I was also out last night and... just none of the shots worked. (Actually I am going to do a sensor check and clean the contacts after reviewing last night's pics. I am a little *headtilt* that one LFB didn't turn out clearly. Light wasn't that bad, was it?)

But still, werewoof.







Probably only the last one is good fodder for my photo-a-day blog. Ah well, last week was a good harvest and this week not.

I like all three of these! there's so much cool/odd stuff lurking in Portland neighborhoods

the werewoof is pretty great, and if you do reshoot that it'd be cool to see what else you pick up. and the pho wall is fantastic

I need better werewoof shots. I need to go back with a wide prime because I have to be right up next to him to shoot or there are tree branches in the way.

Maybe mild bummer that it's a crowded enough spot that getting an unobstructed shot might be harder, but I'm glad you have the lens to do it!

Yeah, trees, cars, garbage cans and a strange desire to not stand in the middle of the road while focusing on one specific point in space can get in the way of things!

I'm not sure, but it's probably bourbon based, maybe with a bit of apple somehow.

There's not really anything boozy with a strong moon connection that I can think of, ha.

Mineral type sake maybe? I am not sure how to blend that with bourbon. But it's clear, minerally and I associate it with night skies for some reason? Also, Moonstone, one of the best rated sake breweries outside of Japan is in Oregon

Oooh, that's an interesting thought. Hadn't considered that. Maybe werewolf shots are plural *shots*, so you have bourbon and sake as separate drinks? Contrasting with each other, like the inherent duality of being a werewolf? IT MAKES SENSE TO ME, lol.

And I didn't know that about Moonstone, which is frankly perfect!

HMMM. The curve of foam is a good idea! I like the moon phase look...

I guess you could go for some of the fancy sparkly liqueurs like hpnotiq or whatever, which kind of has that sparkly moonlight look, but that seems so... trendy. For the CW drama upper class fancy nightclub werewolves, lmao.
(Though in looking up if that's really how you spell that, I did discover that one of their recipes is for a "silver bullet" shot, which is hpnotiq + tequila which sounds AWFUL to me, lmao. For the upper class fancy nightclub EDGY werewolves.)

I'll stick with the bourbon and sake, I think!

I know very little about cocktails, sadly. Most of what I know is either rum based or kahlua based... or both. Or cocktails that are supposed to be champagne based but you replace it with cider. When I have a liqueur cabinet stocked it's like rum, frangelico, amaretto, a different rum...

In googling I did see some whiskey and sake options like manhattans? I've never had a manhattan. Also, I like the idea of herbal bitters if that could work? And this is portland so of course I can get pine bitters if need be :)

I know fuckall about cocktails, tbh, and most of the mixed drinks I make are ALSO kahlua-based, hahaha. Or shitty vodka+fruit juice well drinks at a club, lmao.

I've also never had a manhattan and could not have told you at gunpoint what goes into one, lol.

But ooh, PINE bitters would be perfect for a werewoof drink!

(I wish I didn't hate gin, because that's juniper, but I fuckin hate every gin thing I've ever had, lol.)

I haven't really tried gin.

I'd be so tempted to try a whiskey with pine bitters recipe but I am clueless how to make a recipe like that and I cannot with straight whiskey. That with like a rosemary sprig swizzle might work tho

To be fair, I've only tried gin like... twice. It's extremely dry, to the point it felt like my mouth wanted to shrivel up, lol. The second time I tried it was a raspberry infused one, and that made my mouth want to shrivel up but with a distinct flavor of pink liquid amoxicillin, lol. 0/5, did not enjoy.

I feel like I should try to familiarize myself with more different kinds of liquor, just to... know what the basics are like. I mostly go for flavored vodkas and rum-based stuff if I drink. But shit's expensive, and I don't want to buy stuff that I don't wind up enjoying, ha. (Yet I also know that the difference between the cheap stuff that tastes like paint thinner and the pricier better stuff is a drastic one, so going for the stuff in the $1 shooter barrel at my local liquor store is probably not the best sample, lol.)

Wasting money sucks, but also buying at the store is typically so much cheaper than drinking cocktails at a bar. It's why I used to maintain a liqueur cabinet. But I also had access to my dad's and knew what I liked. I've known that I love frangelico for a long time, but didn't discover that I liked sherry and port for a long time. It was weird finally drinking those because... it was like what I expected alcohol to taste like. I read a lot of fantasy books growing up and just as a generational thing they probably drank a lot of port and sherry and that was the basis of booze descriptions in books I read. It was a weird thing to have click.

No kidding! There are tons of cocktails (both "common" ones and super weird or niche ones) that sound fucking delicious, but they are SOOOO expensive, lol.

(I think my stepbrother is like a fancy-ass "mixologist"/bartender for some catering or event service or something now, so I feel almost even sillier being like "idk what any of that shit is.")

I've never had frangelico, sherry, or port! Though I like that description - the kind of thing you'd expect after reading fantasy. That's an interesting thought in terms of it maybe just being what was a more go-to description for the authors of the time, but that also makes sense to me.

Sherry and port were huge in the 60s and 70s. When I was young, I was reading stuff written by people who came of age then. Everything about the richness and layering made me think 'this is what I expected drinks to be like' and then like some random words floated through my head and I realized why.

Frangelico is also a bit old fashioned, I think, but we always had it in the house. I think it's another 60s/70s hold over from the era when people hosted cocktail parties at home as a regular social thing. It's a hazelnut liqueur that I got very into. Like amaretto, very good in coffee.

Yeah, I think I kind of sideyed some of those very rich descriptions of alcohol, when I compared it to shitty shots of vodka, lmao.

Oooh, a hazelnut liqueur? I'd have to keep it away from Alex, but that sounds like something I would *love.*
