* Omegle, The Escapist... I forget what else... Jezebel... basically a whole bunch of 'wait, that's still around?' formerly big things on the internet are suddenly gone and that feels kind of weird.

And also, what is happening with tumblr? It looks like it's not shutting down exactly, but very close? IDK

I was in a weird mood about Escapist (which technically bought, but with Yahtzee leaving they lost the only thinking keeping the site afloat all these years) but now, ugh

* Guess I need to actually update my website. It's been a pain since WP changed editors. I should have been working on it and making galleries bit by bit all this time, and sprinkling in links on my photography tumbler that was doing so solidly... but oh well.

* I am so tired

* Also, like, the FB group that used to be really good for OC Portland photography content is beyond a hot mess these days. They've got multiple mods and one is too picky and another approved a photo of a dildo on the sidewalk, just laying there. Not an art thing. Not hanging from electrical wires. Just... laying there. Meanwhile, my last few posts got rejected. I stopped even trying to post ages ago. But once in a while I see an image and I'm like WTF??? Tiktok still thinks I am a bot and restricts me even following accounts. My insta account is borked due to a log in problem. I can use it, but I don't want to invest time there especially since when I decided to get Threads it automatically associated my Insta with a long defunct FB account and not my current one. I can't log into that ancient FB account if I wanted to.

For now I am going to focus on just getting content and not on adjusting to an ever-changing internet.

* I do have here. I like posting here. But I also want my working getting out there and it's just a hot mess on today's internet. Ah, man, I just wish this wasn't all happening in November because writing is going to sideline things like dealing with my website.

* I think I'll opt into the beta the new posting page and inbox for DW so I can get used to them now.

the news with tumblr is that they are moving most of the product development team off of tumblr to other areas of the company. at first this seemed like tumblr is in a really bad spot, but after thinking about it for a while this might be good news? tumblr just was not making enough money to sustain itself, so they spent 4 years trying to invest in it so it could grow and that didn't work really. I was worried that when they decided that wouldn't work, that they would dump tumblr completely, but instead what they are trying is to see if they can cut costs by having a smaller team, which is the only other option really if you can't make more revenue I suppose

Yeah, but they are moving them to like the Wordpress part of the company. The porn spam problem has been through the roof recently and I assume it was porn bots evolving, but it looks like they just stopped a chunk of the moderation. We've been through 'sky is falling' moments with tumblr before, but this seems actually dire.

I'm having lots of weird feels about the internet today.

The Omegle/Jezebel/Escapist news coming right on the heels of the leaked (later confirmed) tumblr thing about reassigning the majority of their staff and no longer attempting to develop tumblr... It's a lot.

I miss the good internet. :(

Aaaaaand right after I posted this I went to check the yootubes and Jesse Cox is ending 5 minute gaming news. That was pretty key to keeping me informed in a low effort / time investment way.

Like, on one hand I feel kinda dramatic being upset but also... I am just sick of stuff falling apart.

(Also Pillowfort is also about to die unless they get a massively rich angel investor, but that was always going to happen.)

Ugh, that sucks. Those sort of quick rundown series are the best for keeping on top of stuff that's going on.

No, I don't think it's overdramatic to be upset... it feels like there's an awful lot of stuff just... going away. I realize that things don't last forever, but that doesn't make it not suck when they disappear.

Yup. I guess Pillowfort's fundraiser is doing fairly well, but idk if that momentum will keep up, and it seems likely that it's still just a bandaid.

It's a lot at once, after a year of dealing with tweeter's downfall.

And, poor Denise, this was probably the worst week to announce that new formats are leaving beta. I hate change, which is why I am getting the jump on getting used to it

It really is. The twitter stuff has just been such an ongoing trainwreck, it feels like every new thing is an "oh god, what NOW?"

Oof, right? Ouch on that timing for Denise.

I also hate change! The inbox doesn't seem too different except aesthetically, and I really don't hate the new posting page. I really am glad we got that warning (despite the timing!), because figuring it out now is WAY preferable for me compared to having it sprung on me with no choice.
