Crispy rice! If you haven't heard of it, it's easier to just show a picture:

Yeah, it's like... nigiri but you fry the rice, but not in a fried rice sort of a way. It was yummy. My overall take-away is that I'd have enjoyed it way more if I'd just eaten it with my fingers. I've used chopsticks my whole life, but it's hard to eat this in the size of bite I'd like to using chop sticks. In Japan, eating sushi and other food with hands is not bad manners, it's surprisingly common. But in America we have this idea that the Japanese are very proper and... I'd eat with my hands in a Japanese restaurant in Japan, but I can't bring myself to do it in America.

Also, it had maldon salt, so it was not to be dipped in soy sauce. If I knew that crispy rice is salted I'd have picked another topping because I love, love the flavor of avocado with soy sauce.

It was nice to actually try a thing. My parents were very foody. My mom was an amazing cook. I used to be a good cook, but I stopped bothering after my food problems were diagnosed. It didn't matter how good I cooked, people wouldn't eat food with substitutions. Or, as I was bluntly told 'it's not worth the calories to eat a version without butter'. So, I just stopped making mini-pies and ratatouille and dips and breads and cheesy biscuits and my ghost pepper pretzels.

When I sat down for lunch after my trip to Midslumber, the server asked if I had any allergies and I cannot remember ever being asked unprompted. So, I has her to check on a few things and found stuff I can eat there. My list of places I can eat needs to be rebuilt. Almost every place here I used to be able to eat has changed or closed. So, having this was fun. But, next time I am getting a to-go order so I don't feel weird about just picking them up with my fingers.
