I am very hard on my art skills because I am terrible at regular practice and painfully far from being able to do what I want to do, but I have come along some. I don't remember when I started working on drawing last year, but I know it was after Inktober.

This is my very first sketch of Patience, my Tiefling Wizard next to my most recent drawing of her. I did the right drawing about a month ago. So, this is maybe 10 months practice or less. The drawing on the left was something I put actual effort into and showed other players as what she looks like. I had drawn better stuff in the past, but that was the point my art was at right then.

Part of the difference is practice and learning. Part of it is using a good pose reference versus totally freehand. And part of it is knowing a lot more about materials. The 'it's a poor craftsman who blames their tools' is an idea that I need to erase from my head. In both trad and digital art, all the ins and out of your tools can totally trip you up. Sketchbook paper versus XPressit cardstock? That makes a massive difference in how many corrections you can make without wrecking your piece, how the paper takes the medium and how much it pops when you put it online.

My drawings of her, in order of creation are here. Though, I've left the first drawing off of my online gallery. That sketch doesn't need to be in my galleries, but I thought it was worth taking a look back at it.
