The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

The latest Conjuring is up on HBO MAX and it's the one that takes place around where the Warrens live, AKA where I grew up. The films are based on true stories. So much demonology and exorcisms in my backyard and I never knew!

The first time they went into the woods I was like 'nope, not Connecticut'. Not a frame of that could have been a Connecticut or a New England location. I checked, and it was all filmed in Georgia.

The films are lovely in terms of art direction and cinematography. I really enjoy the whole series from that front. The first film kind of makes me want to live in a farmhouse with bed covered in mismatched quilts. No complaints, I love the look but they score 0/10 for making it look like anything could be New England. The trees were wrong, none of the houses, buildings or outdoor spaces were designed for snow, etc. It was all very southern.

At one point a river is important and I kept hoping they'd name which one! Oh well. Maybe I can find out.

Anyway, my non-spoiler review is basically ... I grew up with demons all around!

Na or no?

The hour is upon us and I am still not sure what to do about Nano. I intend to write a ton this month, but I can't just toss my current projects and work on something else. Too unproductive. I have a story fully outlined, but it's going to be about 5-7k, nowhere near 50k.

I really want to do it for the sense of camaraderie and hope of write-ins, but if I drop my current writing projects and focus on a new one it will be a inefficient use of my time. Finishing my current stuff will be way better for my actual writing progress. But I feel so out of tune with the spirit of Nano to just sign up and write a few shorter, unrelated projects.

Nano

After much hand wringing I've just signed up for Nano as if my current project could possibly be a novel. We'll see how it goes. It's not fully in the spirit of the thing, but I doubt that anyone is going to come crawling out of my computer and shame me for it ... especially since I left the discord for my city's Nano group. The local region leaders are ... no, just no. Also, the discord is full of people trying to sell copies of books in channels explicitly not for that.
