This summer I went to one pride event for a real city and two for fictional lands!
Okay, first the positives. Wait, no, first let me explain WTF this is. I did
did make a post a while back about it. It's an art project in North Portland where you go through a door into a magic world. There is also a cafe nextdoor with coffee, beer, light bites, etc. Wonderwood had it's Pride event this weekend.
The good: Wonderwood having a Pride weekend is awesome. They had 50 art vendors at the saturday event, all well chosen. Even those not selling specifically queer stuff clearly knew the other vendors and the vibes were right. The ice cream vendor was a Cosmic Bliss vegan ice cream sandwich cart and it was amazing.
The ???: Confirming this event was happening and was not a late night doom scrolling fever dream took way too much time. It was only posted to Insta reels, which disappear. It was not on the site and the artist has left twitter. People not on bluesky cannot see the posts! Closer to the event he did make more posts, but planning my week I was tearing through various social media sites trying to confirm.
The Friday event involved a DJ and dancing, so I didn't go. The cafe isn't that big and being at a crowded event solo is miserable. Also, what if there literally wasn't room for me? I didn't know until after it had started that he had two adjacent outdoor spaces for the weekend. I would have gone if I'd had a better idea of what was happening.
It's possible that being a first time event that they deliberately under-promoted to avoid getting more people than they can handle. A lot of Portland art stuff can get randomly swarmed.
Going in via the alley:

The event was great, but I did expect the 'faire' day to be more interactive. Also, if they even did a T shirt for Wonderwood pride I'd be all over it.
