I went to a zoom meeting of an local photography group today and it was chill! I am pretty salty about how competitive and toxic photography groups and communities can be, but I signed up for this anyway. I'm glad I did because it was nice. No one was really doing critiques, but I am fine with that. It was just nice for it to be a chill meeting and photogs being generally friendly.
On the downside some people obviously and outrageously cheated at the challenge. The challenge was supposed to be 'shoot your backyard within this two week period'. One submission that guy admitted that his shot was from last summer in another state. Another was clearly from an out of town hike. Irritating, but compared to the stuff I've run into in other groups, I can deal with it.
The photography group I used to be a part of pretty much turned into a scam. Once the group was solid she just added element after element until the group become a content factory for her own purposes. I am really glad that I am really, really averse to signing away rights to my own work.
