I wrote my tax appt down wrong and missed it. I managed to reschedule for tomorrow at 8:00 PM PST, an hour before midnight EST. Talk about close to the wire. I am ... so dumb. I am also going out to the place very early tomorrow just in case. It's ... not the nearby office.

Today I had to spend $50 bucks on Lyfts to go to a different office, hold my ID up to a window, and be slipped a form from a mail slot. Stupid thing never arrived and they couldn't fax it or do anything but give it to me in person. I got the form, had dinner and was about to head off to my appt. I went to double check all my info and realized that ... oops.

It's a solvable problem, but I feel very dumb.

The more I read about my American friends dealing with taxes, the stranger and more complicated the whole system seems.

So sorry that happened to you, but you are not dumb. Everything is crazy right now and as I tell everyone, my brain doesn't have the RAM available for much. Forgetfulness is a stress response. Hopefully everything will ultimately get worked out for you.

Hmm... I don't know about other countries but here in Finland, everything is done online. We have a couple of different, "strong identification" procedures we use across the online field, including but not limited to our social security accounts, bank accounts, and taxes. As a rule, we pay taxes from each pay check (or it's automated by the employer just like our national health insurance pay and possible union fees) and once a year, we get a pre-filled tax form we need to check. The checking and additional info, changes, etc are all done online and the changed tax form returns to a handler and then we'll get the approved form in the mail.

Just... keeping up with the taxes feels so much easier than sweating over them once a year. Of course, this is the only system I've ever lived with so, of course it feels easier... :D
