I posted some yard art to a local FB group for sharing weird Portland stuff. They require locations, but are no longer enforcing exact locations. I don't always post exact locations because I do a lot of work to find my shots, but sometimes I do. I didn't post the exact address, but enough info so people know the block.

Someone posted a comment 'correcting' me with the address and listed a street I've been nowhere near for weeks. I actually just hit up google street view to check and nope, that is super not the location. Confident misdirection to hide a spot that is like a block off of two mains streets. WTF, yall? It's fine to be squirrelly about shooting locations, but the lying and misdirection is so dumb and unnecessarily mean.

This is (one of the reasons) I walk so much!

I understand not wanting to give the EXACT location, but actively LYING about it is really shitty. Bleh.

(Urban exploration type groups are notorious for that. And yes, it IS common that you don't want things to be too easy to find, but being vague and deliberately lying are very different.)

For sure! You don't need to let other people take advantage of the legwork you did to find interesting locations and subject matter. (And it's frustrating when that's a bulk of the comments you get on your work.) But yeah, giving fake locations (and even more so, "correcting" the location someone else gave to deliberately mislead?) That's just shitty.
