We are having life-endangering heat again this week. The forecast is not as bad as the heat dome event, just 110 instead of 116-120. So, I didn't run away. Still, it's making me a bit anxious in my top floor walk up. I am very prone to heat stroke, always have been. Things should be manageable even if I lose power and the current forecast is a few degrees lower from where we thought it would be. Still, it's causing me to be stunningly unproductive. I didn't even set up my planner for the week until today.

Crucially, we are now expecting night-time cool offs and initially we were expecting to not have a night time temp drop. Also, there is a good chance we'll only get to 105. So this really, really shouldn't be as bad.

A few unsolicited tips for when the power goes out, from a hot-climate dweller: soak a bandana or similar cloth in the coldest water you can get (ice water if you can), and wear it around your neck. Cooling cloths and towels exist and can be purchased online, but a bandana will do in a pinch. Change out as often as necessary. Get a small battery powered fan (they have some that you can wear around your neck, and some that can be charged via a car, battery pack, or solar bank -- if you don't have a small solar charger those are nice to have too, for phones and such). Have some kind of electrolytes on hand (powder is nice b/c it's portable: I like the Liquid IV but there are many kinds out there). Being unproductive in the heat is a survival mechanism -- slow down and don't move around any more than you have to. Hopefully you won't need any of this advice but if you do, I offer it freely. Stay safe.

I hope it does not wind up being as bad as feared! Especially if the night-time cool-downs keep happening, that can make it way more manageable.

As someone who also gets heat stoke distressingly easily, my sympathies. I hope you can keep it from getting too bad.

Silver linings to the smoke clouds, I guess. Even if it's just because it's blotting out the sun, lol.

I hope it does clear up! Though definitely stay in if it's still too bad to breathe.
