I've started listening to The Casual Criminalist while gaming. This recc is not a deep cut, I think the podcast form of the show is near the top of some charts. But, true crime podcasts can be a minefield. I rarely check out new ones because so many are more interested in telling a lurid story than being accurate. They are like unholy fiction/non-fiction hybrids, sometimes in problematic ways. I love true crime, but most of the category channels are trash.
Anyway, this channel seems very legit so far and has an interesting presentation style. The person who reads the scripts has never seen them before. While he's reading, he has no idea what the outcome is. You are kind of going along with him on a journey. It's not quite react content, but sort of it's more refined cousin. The second case I heard him read was a case I was familiar with. The outcome in that case is that it's all a hoax. It was fun to hear him go 'aha, yes, that's totally a connection isn't it!' when I knew later on he'd be facepalming.
Anyway, so far it's got solid research and an unique way to be engaging. The presenter tries to figure things out, guess the killer, or complains about the show's writer as the case goes on.
