Hey, at least I did something with my weekend?
Picard Season 2
Wow, they course corrected on tone. That was good to see. Season 1 made me feel like I was being made fun of for being a Trekkie. S2 returns to Hopepunk vibes. The plot is... wonky. Don't think about the time loop. Sense, it makes none. It *would* make sense if the Borg Queen was clearly different when they returned to the present and this as partially about that fix, but, nope.
Some people hate it because they think giving Picard such a person and introspective plot was 'not-Trek'. Did y'all not see TNG? The Board Meetings iiiiiinnn Spaaaaaace show? Picard being painfully introspective is on brand. The ending with Q was amazing and emotional and really brought closure to all that.
It makes me want to re-watch this classic:
The actor for Young Guinan was amazing. Her voice work was incredible. She sounded perfect.
Rios being all 'I've known this woman for 3 hours but am going to stay with her' was dumb as shit, but also very on-brand for Trek.
The wrap up for the Soji/Kory character was perfect.
They has Wesley back and didn't have *one* scene with him in the background just looking at Picard walk by so we could all read various things into his expression? They had one of the most wanted returns of a legacy character and he had 0 interactions, or distance glances, at any other TNG characters?
Strange New Worlds
Young Uhura is great. Ortegas is perfection. Young Chapel... it's been one episode, so the jury is out. I'd like her on a different show.
Overall, we'll see. This show *should* have Kirk and Spock's first meeting and I will 100% judge the show based on that. I don't need it to be emotional, Spock might completely *nothing* Kirk at first... but this is an important moment. Careful choices need to be made.
I like Ethan Peck as Spock. The kissing scene was odd. Like, are we going to ignore all canon about Vulcan intimacy? C'mon, y'all, you can do better than this.
Not sure what else to say until we get new episodes. I hope it's good?
