My photo-a-day tumblr has 356 posts, so I've made it to a year. My Photog tumblr is here. As I've said a few times, despite my massive folders and years of work it took a lot to manage that. I kept my posting focus very narrow, I didn't post anything that could be misinterpreted (so none of my pictures of faded or ragged pride flags. I like them because mood, but releasing those into the wild could go wrong), etc.

Now that I've reached a year I am making a few tweaks. First, I've edited my queue so that it posts at noon in my time zone rather than the east coast. I am just going to fill my queue as I get new material, and if I run out I run out. I am also adding re-blogs of my older posts from before I had any followers to my queue. I didn't know you could queue reblogs until mistressofmuses pointed it out to me.I am also going to make a few multi-picture theme posts and other stuff.

I am still going to try to get several new 'keeper' pictures weekly, but the world doesn't always cooperate with that.

Overall, my experiment had gone okay. Tumblr does a thing where it shows you now many notes you've gotten over the past 3 days and for me it's usually over 100. So, even if a lot of my new posts don't do much, my content is still getting organic growth on the only platform that does organic growth anymore. I really, really need to work on my website more and my using tumblr to drive more traffic there. And I'll have to see where I am once this tumblr project is 2 years old.

I'm glad it's going pretty well! It's nice that you can see stats that show that it IS getting growth and reach, and that you know those numbers are likely to be genuine ones (rather than "the algorithm pushed your early posts super hard to lure you in and keep you chasing that high" nonsense.)

And I think that reblogging some earlier stuff is a good idea - I know that I'm often very glad to see posts that either I enjoyed the first time around and now get to see again, or ones I missed before.

I think the project is going to feel better once I am curating my posts more and posting a bit less, but sometimes the sort of... odd ones work well over there

I think that will likely be helpful. But it is sometimes unpredictable which things take off and which don't!

Yeah, there is a delicate art when it comes to curating pictures... when is a 'bad picture... actually good?
