Today was Guild Wars 2's 10th Anniversary and also it's Steam release. I kinda got sucked into the chaos and got little else done. Oops. Oh well, it was a one-off and I've played very little for a while. It was fun to join in. The launch and the various promo events went pretty smoothly. Someone found a way to troll poor Mukluk and he wound up needed to diagnose overlay issues in the middle of a stream with 30k viewers. And because MMO tribalism is a thing, the discussions on the Steam community page are downright unhinged.

Tomorrow Teapot is going to get a frontpage slot on Twitch, so I will hang out in stream for a bit, but not as much. He is... uh... high energy. Tomorrow when he's on the twitch frontpage he will be Fully Activated and I've got to see for myself.

Also I am totally winding down for the evening with a bit of writing and not lurking in Xunlai's stream.

Guild Wars 2 on Twitch today wasn't as chaotic as hoped. Teapot was only on the frontpage for UK, instead of in general... possibly due to a settings bug. It's kinda sad because he's one of the most die hard creators and people like him make most of their income off of big events like this. Muk made the equiv of 1/3rd his total income from last year due to his single front page visit yesterday. (I know hard numbers for multiple reasons including him responding to the big leak where everyone's Twitch income was exposed by doing a complete breakdown of his costs and income streams as a tutorial / expectations setting session for aspiring creators. He also showed his raw analytics after the stream.) So Teapot not getting the same shake when he was supposed to, kinda not great. Also, Teapot shows off the game better. Muk has played MMOs too long and fundamentally doesn't understand how his stream seems like a hazy mess of compression with flashing numbers over it. Teapot, and Laranity, get this and how they optimize their streams to show maps, characters, enemies, mechanics, etc is night and day. Teapot also arranged for the griffin flying guilds to do flybys during his show case and also brought back a legendary WVW commander to lead for a bit and also show his strats. That's... a LOT. That was nuts.

tl:dr GW2 arranged for two one-hour slots of the frontpage of Twitch and... it was fun but very sub-optimal for for showing off the game and their two top creators got very different paydays from it. This post could have been 5x as long but... I figure everyone's eyes glazed over this anyway. But, uh, ask me if you ever want to write a streamer AU?
