That tech support might not understand that 'router' and 'modem' are different words with different meanings, but it's better than chipper lady voice chat bot hell.
* Speaking of things not working, my computer has been failing to be able to draw from it's power supply again. It's an issue I've fixed before. This time, I thought it might be beyond fixing* so I finally ordered a new one. Then I fixed it! But now it's having random problems again.
* By 'beyond fixing' I mean it's beyond both me and any place I'd trust with my computer. Most fixing places are scams these days and try to make you pay before returning your gear to even test if it's fixed. Once this is scrubbed of all my data, I might try a few more things so it can be a back up system if I ever need it.
I am both annoyed at replacing this computer, but also relieved to be hopefully done with the constant jury-rigging. Also, I bought this at during a time when graphics cards and drives were in such demand from crypto bros that stuff cost 4-5x normal. I had to get what was, for me, a teeny hard drive. I am finally going back to a normal sized drive. The specific computer I am buying, when the model came out it cost over 2x as much.
* Now the big tech demand is not for chips or cards, it's water and power. Three Mile Island is reopening to power AI. Three Mile Island is one of two reasons there is enough anti-nuclear sentiment that a large political movement grew out of it in the past 10 years.
