You know that project you always wanted to do but never managed to make real headway on? That one that keeps coming back to your thoughts? Take a look at what doing it in 2018 would look like. I'm now old enough that I've followed certain creative people for a long-ass time. Some of the most creative, productive people I've seen have gone back and done those sorts of projects. I've always been told that if I have a long term project, I should trash it and move on. That is terrible advice.
You don't need to be true to what your younger self would have done. Times change, idea evolve and context changes. That fic or project you always wanted to do, if you can manage it this year, what would to look like?

Date: 2018-01-14 10:46 pm (UTC)From:My longest running someday project for fanfic involves a time jump to modern day and that is currently a no-go. Maybe in a few years modern day will be different, but right now no.
My original project I've spent a lot of time on, I need to work on other stuff first. It's a project that kind of needs to be backburner for a while. It need a lot of iterating. So, keeping it there while I do other things is the best way to move forward on it.
