One of the charming things about Denali is all the casual bashing of President McKinely.

Denali, both the mountain and the National Park, used to be named for McKinely. The name was only changed back in 2015. Bus drivers would just start talking on the bus PA system saying "Can you believe they used to call that mountain Mount McKinely? Just to flatter his ego? So stupid."

I just looked it up and it sounds like the State of Alaska has been calling it all Denali since the 80s, but the federal/national level didn't change. There was a sign in the park at Eielson Ranger Station talking about how it was a campaign by park employees that finally lead Obama to order the federal government to accept the change. A few times I was talking to park employees, either rangers or bus drivers, they started bashing McKinely and his ego out of the clear blue sky. They are still salty.

McKinely's legacy: being deeply hated by the workers and inhabitants of Denali.
