Challenge #1 : In your own space, introduce yourself!
What am I again?
I spend a lot of time doing photography and I was just reading a composition book for fun. Evaluating things around me to see if there is a shot is part of my brain at this point. I do things like hike a few miles in the rain and come back with this one shot:

From this gallery on my personal site

I rarely shoot viewpoints. I shoot trails, the small details that makes landscapes unique, the details that make cities awesome, and am also guilty of lots of shots of my feet. If you want to see more, my personal website is here and some of the photography posts I've made on DW are indexed here along with a few other things.
I am also someone who has been in fandom a loooong time. These days I am mostly into older, obscure fandoms. I am currently rewatching The Sentinel and working on Buckaroo Banzai fan art, so, yeah. That is how current my fandoming is right now.

Date: 2020-01-01 11:17 pm (UTC)From:What I mean by 'viewpoints' is that if I hike out to ridge with a view over a gorge or hike out to the top of a mountain, that shot is rarely a 'keeper' for me. The photo from my hike that I post is more likely to be tiny white mushrooms growing alongside the trail.
Taking pictures of the trail is more interesting to me, and more of a challenge. I need to think about composition. I need to find places where the depth of the shot will read correctly in a 2-d image.
I keep trying to be into new canons, but my brain wants 90s urban fantasy. Also, right now the interesting canons tend to be in Chinese, so I can't working on inking while watching. I need a canon to be English or Japanese so I can look away from the screen do a few lines of inking then let those lines dry.

Date: 2020-01-01 11:45 pm (UTC)From:Ooh, and thank you for the link to the inking you do--wow, that's gorgeous as well. So, yes, continue with the English-language 90s urban fantasy if it means you keep doing that. *g*

Date: 2020-01-02 04:24 am (UTC)From:Keep shooting, it's fun to have your own pictures. I run a comm on DW called
The Sentintel was a fairly obscure show, except in online fandom. In slash circles, it was an early mega fandom. It's about a cop with superhuman senses who needs this long haired hippy academic to help him control them. The hippy wins up crashing at him place and just sort of never leaves for reasons never explained. It was also a popular canon to cross over things with and 'Sentinel AUs' are still a thing.

Date: 2020-01-02 03:19 pm (UTC)From:I'll have to see if I can find Sentinel -- and that's where I've seen it. There's a big SGA/Sentinel AU thing and I haven't read them because I don't know anything really about Sentinel. I feel like I'm missing out! haha

Also been in fandom a while! Through the days of forums, yahoo & LJ...where does the time go?
I have only seen one episode of The Sentinel, but love the fandom Sentinel/Guide trope. My goal is to watch the actual TV series this year.
Is it okay to subscribe to you? =^_^= Obviously no need to add back :_)

Date: 2020-01-02 10:52 pm (UTC)From:The time does fly! Why don't I have more fannish projects done by now?
The TV is a very mixed bag at times, but so far Season 1 is better than I remember. I know there are some real trainwreck episodes later on. It was an early mega fandom and shaped some fic tropes still used. So, I'd be interested in your reactions to the source material :)
Yes, and added back!

Date: 2020-01-03 08:04 am (UTC)From:Ditto on that sentiment! Life and time seems to flutter past quick as a hummingbird's wings. Lol
I have heard that some of the later Sentinel episodes were...not so good, but hopefully the earlier seasons remain interesting! Happy viewing :-)
I will definitely share my reactions when I view the source material, I look forward to your reactions as you progress :-D
It is fascinating that one show has had such a huge impact on fandom yet isn't better known.
Thank you, added!

Date: 2020-01-03 09:59 am (UTC)From:I've been writing down some notes and will post about it at a point. I did a canon review to do a giftfic last year and I think I picked the most train-wrecky episodes to review. One of the really WTF episodes also had a good original song written and recorded for it so I always start there.
