Challenge #6
In your own space, make a list — anything between one and ten things is a sweet spot, but don't feel constrained by that! - of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, or that you'd like someone to make for you.
But I want so many things and it always seems so awkward to ask!
Let's see...
* More eyes on my alternate Neskowin gallery. I usually shoot with an aim to be as realistic and hashtag-authentic as I can, so I don't know how to promote this more fantastical gallery. But I love some of those shots.
* Advice on how to get more eyes on my fic. I am magic at having my fics get lost in the shuffle because I posted in the middle of an established author finally importing all their work, not knowing about re-dating for exchanges, etc. I have a tendancy to realize something about how a site works or where fandom spaces are about a year too late. I also write in older fandoms where it's hard to get that fandom's attention.
I know there are other Rawhide/Perfect Tommy shippers out there. I remember the activity before the mailing lists purges. I wish they'd find me.
* I am still working on my project to draw rooms at The Banzai Institute. The next one will have a different visual format to break things up a little. (Isometric, but zoomed in and a different type of room) Even if people don't know the canon I'd love discussion on those. And if anyone wants to use the line art as color practice that would be amazing. My plan is to color them myself as well, but it's not going great.
* I want feed back on my new pin designs but I haven't actually done the test prints yet. So, uh, feed back in a few days? I really need to do that test prints so I know I am on the right track and can actually be productive with this project. I will be selling pins at Escapade, not as a dealer but during the Fanfare thing.
I can't think of anything else right now. I've had this entry open for a while. I'll just post it.

AO3 handle?
Date: 2020-01-13 12:49 am (UTC)From:I think it mainly comes down to writing in a popular fandom. But sometimes the plot bunnies just insist on inspiring us to write our passions even if only a handful of people will ever read them.
My most popular story has over a thousand kudos, but one of my favorite stories that I spent years writing has only 8 kudos. If I get more than 25 kudos on something I consider it was well-received.
Re: AO3 handle?
Date: 2020-01-13 01:47 am (UTC)From:When I was in LOTR fandom people were openly inflating kudos scores so my stuff kept being below writers who didn't even use paragraph breaks. It's infuriating to get buried because I wasn't part of 'The Crew'. If a person even looks for a story like mine they'll hit spag nightmares and give up before they hit my stuff. In IronStrange fandom people pulled all kinds of bullshit to be seen above the tide of fics coming in.
I don't care about raw numbers, I just care about them actually reaching their audience and not getting shunted to the bottom of the pile by someone with a computer lab full of different IP addresses and too much free time. Also, if I write 'late' in a fandom I'll always rank lower. If I was after raw numbers I'd just do find&replace on my fics and swap the names to BTS members. It's about reaching the people who like what I like, even if that is a very small number.
There isn't a fix for any of this. I mean, I try. I started a Jeeves & Wooster comm in response to my fic getting almost no hits. I've started a Buckaroo Banzai group on dA.
I'm going to write the fic I want to write. It's just harder to be motivated when I've dealt with all this in the past, where not being in the loop meant I got sidelined.
