Back in the day I used to get into arguments with DC fanboys and even Hellblazer fans over whether or not John Constantine is bi. It was established in Hellblazer #1, but certain title bounce authors and some wrote him as straight. *cough*Garth Ennis*cough* It's amazing to see them both get him so right these days and to so overtly and undeniably lean into him being bi. My soul is soothed every time he kisses a guy.
Yeah, I may have just watched Justice League Dark Pokeman or whatever it's called for bi John Constantine content. (Outside of that, it was a terrible film. They made the screen flash white every time a powerful creature hit another to show impact. Bright flickers on every ... single ... damn ... punch.)
I am also watching Legends of Tomorrow starting with S3 and it is serving very good Constantine. A+ John dialogue.
When I got into comics, I went DC. I avoided Marvel because I can be a completionist and didn't want to be collecting both. I was really into DC Vertigo stuff like Hellblazer and Sandman. I stopped caring about DC for ... yesh, roughly a thousand reasons. I was hardly alone. I was mostly done before New 52 hit and that just tanked interested in DC for large groups of people. If I even try to get into all the reasons DC became the internet's favorite punching bag for a while, or my personal beefs, I'd be writing this post for the rest of the month.
hasDCdonesomethingstupidtoday.com was even founded to help people stay on top of all the dumb, insulting and terrible things they were doing at an astonishingly fast pace.
I tried with the DC television stuff but most of it went off the rails and Flash's 'oh no we must make sure Iris doesn't find out my secret identity for her own safety!' was just so stunningly dumb. It was so obvious in the narrative that her not knowing was causing a lot of the danger. I watched Legends at the start, but I noped out hard at one of the season finales. I am watching the current stuff and it's better than it has any right to be.
