I rewatched Pose this weekend. I still think it's one of the best shows ever. I knew it was renewed, but was curious if there are any details. Apparently, they were 8 days into shooting S3 when lockdown hit.
The show references a lot of cultural moments going on. Some addressed by name, some strongly implied. Madonna and the Vogue craze were plot points. The body of an executive hidden in a closet is based on a real story. Frederica, the evil landlady, was meant to be Leona Helmsley. The show's timeline is pushing them into RuPaul's era and I am curious how that will play out. I am very much not a RuPaul fan, but I can see how the show might put him in a good light for raising visibility and playing TV characters that weren't just punchlines.
I am trying to think of other era events they might bring in. I one read an article about an MTV contest winner being transgender, but I cannot find a source on that right now. It was something MTV tried to keep on the downlow. There is Priscilla and Too Wong Foo, but those are later in the 90s. Wigstock?
As for the show's characters, I am very curious about the two kids Blanca adopts right at the end of Season 2. I can see Ricky starting to getting into Ball running, maybe as judge or MC. I expect we'll see some new characters, some children new to the scene.
The one Season 3 plot point I'd like to see addressed in Season 3 is the photographer who outed Angel being dealt with. But I feel like that wasn't set up for anything ongoing and wont be addressed.
S2 ended at a good point for the characters. I am glad there is a new season in the works, but that was a good end point. I don't want to see Angel, Papi or Damon have major reversals of fortune.
