I've been meaning to detail my own theories about the case. I need to find some very specific references, though. It's been on my to-do-someday list for ages. I've started a draft and may yet write it up.

* Robert Rackstraw is not D B Cooper, but every video feels the need to bring him up. He is the suspect with the most SEO. This is because a group of assholes have been flogging the idea that it's him for ages for book sales. Their 'evidence' is a conversation taken out of context. When he was homeless they offered him money to confess. He asked how much. They've spun this 'interest in confessing' into booksales.

Mr. Rackstraw was in the original 300 person suspect pool, but the FBI has never had a strong lead. The original suspect pool was 'everyone in the area with the right skill set'.

* The 'D B Cooper is Canadian' theory is fascinating to me. An early mistake being replicated by other media is why we call it the D B Cooper Case. If his actual pseudonym of Dan Cooper had been the one in TV and Papers far and wide, the connection to the French language comic about a pilot called Dan Cooper would have been made ages ago. It was only discovered relatively recently. I need to track down when, but I think it was about 7 years ago.

Whether it's a real lead, a deliberate red herring or a co-incidence, due to the extreme lack of evidence the shape of the investigation and his cultural impact would have been different. Instead of folk songs about D B Cooper the anti-hero, we would have had songs about Dan Cooper the French Canadian who made damn fools of the US Feds.

* I have two separate pet theories. That video had a detail that further points to one of my theories!

Yeah, I've spent enough time looking at this case that I need to actually collect references and put my own theories together.
