A prolific romance writer has been caught plagiarizing from Ao3 hosted m/m fics.

"As Kokom Roily’s plagiarism accusation spread on Wednesday night, other readers began to look into Romilly King’s output, accusing the author of plagiarizing stories from other fandoms: Hannibal, Marvel, and the popular Chinese novel Mo Dao Zu Shi, to name a few."

Well that's just delightful.

And holy hell, those screenshots are DAMNING. I've seen occasional plagiarism accusations where it's pretty obviously copied, but juuuuust vague or altered enough that it could almost have been accidental... but that's one of the most egregious examples I've seen.

I've seen worse, but it was people stealing my con reports for Anime News Network with even the typos intact. Also, I've seen people do Find & Replace on names to turn all sorts of fic into popular BTS fic. This is the worst I've seen from published fiction, tho.

I suppose I should have included the caveat that that's the worst PUBLISHED plagiarism that I've seen. (I've seen others, also within the romance community, but the one I'm remembering at least looked like they'd *tried* to hide it.)

But holy hell, people stealing your report stuff to publish it is super shitty. :/

I have seen the find&replace thing done for fic before, so that's probably the most blatant of any kind of plagiarism I've seen (or like... reposts of someone else's fic while pretending they were the original author) but... this is extremely blatant for a published work. Yikes.

I'm amazed they thought they could get away with it considering the overlap between slashfic readers and m/m romance readers. But it looks like they did get away with it for a while.
