Overall, it's great. It's a more realistic take on a societal collapse than anything I've seen. It's a bit weird to see a world taken out by the pandemic especially with those particular 2020 timestamps on the story ... but it's great. I am glad I decided to watch it. I've just seen so much about both Station 11 and Succession, I don't think i am going to watch Succession, though.

I am at a point where it feels like some characters made choices for Plot Reasons rather than anything resembling logic. Since the show has been so spot on about human behavior so far, it's a bit jarring.

The original story is from a few years ago and based on when they started that scripts were likely already done before Covid was a major story. Obviously, the pandemic on Station 11 is very different and way more lethal, but they hit a bunch of stuff spot on about early reactions.

Actually, it's not just that it's realistic about people, it's realistic about the needs for housing and stability and medical care, etc. So much post-apoc stuff acts like everyone is young and healthy forever.

I'll probably read the book at some point.

That sucks about the player in the US. Here it's just bundled in with a regular streaming platform, which works fine.

I also love the, "these are real people who need to find shelter, wear clothes and dig latrines" vibe.

Can't read yet because I'm only up to episode five, but oof, this show is bouncing me all over the place!

I've seen a billion things about Succession and still know absolutely nothing about it, but all two of the mentions I've seen of Station 11 made me look it up.

I don't have HBO, but it sounds really interesting. Of course, one of the two mentions of it was someone saying "I hope the show fixes the ending", so I don't know if it's likely to end in a dissatisfying way or what, ha. (And for what it's worth, I also know my taste does not always match this person's, so... maybe the ending of the book is good actually.)

At the very least, I might give the book a try, if I don't have any way to watch the show.

I don't know if the show and book endings are different. I know some changes were made. I will probably read the book at some point and find out.

Making that show must have been so weird.

Yeah, I have no idea if they changed the ending or not. Or whether a change would be good, or why this person disliked the end of the book, lol.

I feel like working on the show would have been an extremely weird experience. Especially on the timing: a wiki skim tells me the series was ordered on June 25, 2019 and filming began in January of 2020. So yeah, no one knew what Covid was going to become when it was being written.

January 2020 and March 2020 are big points on the timeline as well. It's eerie. I can't imagine what the production meetings must have been like.

If you do get a chance to watch it, you'll find some of the dates chosen for the series to be downright eerie. The production meetings must have been surreal.

Maybe someday piracy will be viable for me again! Or if there's ever a method other than an HBO subscription to watch it. But yeah, it sounds like the dates are creepily prophetic. That would be vaguely creepy in retrospect, production-wise, I'd think.
