* Elon Musk is now twitter's largest shareholder, having bought a 9.2% stake for just under three billion. Well, that really makes me not want to build a presence there, not that I've ever been able to. Both as a content platform and as a place to fandom it's never been good for me. It's just a place to follow certain people.

I use a browser extension to keep me from going on twitter or facebook too often. I have to block/unblock/reblock, though. I wish there was a 'you can visit once per day' extension.

Ah, social media becomes more of a hellscape day by day. It's really been a long, horrifying slide.

* A third act was added to the show I was planning to go to this week. It's no longer Lex opening for STD, it's Shubzilla opening for both of them. Shub uses very loud, boomy beats. Going to the show keeps seeming like a worse and worse idea.

I've been into nerdcore since MC Frontalot was competing in SongFight back on LJ, but have never been to a show. Frontalot does still do shows, but I've seen livestreams and he's very low energy these days. Honestly, seeing him on stage these days makes me feel old.

I really need to come to a decision about this, especially since the show is tomorrow. I really want this one chance to see STD or this would be easy and I'd have noped out already.

And even more reason for me to never start going there. I'm kinda forced to use FB, since that's how my family and some friends keep in touch. Not sure I'll ever understand why fans prefer to use big corporate sites instead of supporting smaller and fan-run communities (I've heard Tumblr is the place for art, so that I can understand). And then they get judgmental when the fan-run places ask for donations... guess they'd rather put more money in Elon Musk's pocket!

Yeah, I don't get it either. And like, supporting Livejournal is now technically illegal for residents of the US and other places.

I was off of FB for years, but I missed a lot of social and business opportunities. Being off of it hurts me more than it hurts them. But I also don't host content there. That's the whole social media business model, monetizing people's content. I've run a bunch of comms over the years specifically to help give people an alternative, but yeah, people would rather being out in the storm than try to help build community spaces.

I am just once again glad I keep my my photography mostly here or on my own website. I guess I need to find ways to promote it more on reddit. There's been a move to using reddit to search for info and content rather than relying on google.

I’m still on Twitter for a few friends (a small locked account functions pretty similarly to a group chat), but it’s a struggle with each “improvement” to keep it confined to exactly what I want to see and nothing else.

I have a sibling who only uses Facebook messenger. I have resorted to sending them postcards by mail, or communicating by family proxy. It’s funny, but not really. (Am I being too mean?)

Yeah, it's complicated.

It can be hard to deal with people who will only use one form of contact in 2022. That made more sense a few decades ago. You're the one putting in the extra effort to stay in touch.

Any chance could just show up late to the concert, timed for about the time you think STD might be on? Admittedly, I've left after seeing an opener (that I went to the concer for), but I haven't tried arriving late so I know that might not work. Good luck with your decision either way.

The problem is that the seating is almost all at tables. I'd need to arrive late and find someone willing to let me join them. Otherwise, yes, I'd totally go late. If I am going to go, I think I need go early and snag one of the few bar seats.

It's a weird, tiny, historic, haunted venue.

The news about Elon Musk buying stake in Twitter just... definitely gives me worsening hellscape heebie jeebies. Yuck. The slide of awful has been long and relatively steady, but moves like this feel steeper.

Oof on the show. I'm not sure what I'd do in that situation... I'm not really familiar with any of them, but I can see why (along with the previously mentioned stuff) you wouldn't be so thrilled about the whole thing. At the same time, I ALSO get why you wouldn't want to give up the chance to see an act you DO want to see.

Ugh, sucky that it's a hard decision.

Yeah, I really need to make a decision and go with it. It's past time I did that.
