Super potato quality pictures this time.

Left to right:
* Kuretake Dot Pens. Yes, good. Using the 'dot' instead of a brush or typical marker wedge tip is so good. I have them in metallics because I try to avoid pastels and that is *hard* in bujo marker sets. Metallics tend to be darker, richer colors to handle the metallicyness.
* Zig Brushables. All in blue. Both tips are brushes, but in different tones of blue. I got these from Sketchbox and nearly put them right in the Scrap bag for being all blues. But I've used these a surprisingly amount. The whole '2 coordinated colors in one cylinder' thing I usually find to be a gimmick, but it works well here. Good for quick shading.
* Tombow Cottage coordinated color set. I was super psyched for this set, but so far it's been a let down. I get the worst marker lines from them. But, I see lots of people using them no problem. I am pretty sure this is a case of me needing to practice with them. Also, I didn't like the colors as much as I hoped. It's got the 'mucky greens' problem that most marker sets have. But, my local store sells tombow singles so I added some actual good greens for trees and stuff, and a solid brown.
I've been frustrated by these so far, but I think with some effort I'll be happy with them. With the added color singles I've got a good color set at least.
* Two Sketchbox alcohol markers in purples. They've been working on doing their own competitor to copic, and this is their second wack at it. I am trying to just use them up.
* Neopiko color. Alcohol markets from Deletr, the people who make inks used by a lot of manga artists. I like them. They coordinate well. They are the nicest non-copics I've used.

I left the copics in their place rather than pull them. This is the side of my desk, with the other items that live there. Yes, my desk organizer is made out of Sketchbox boxes. In my defense, a lot of desk organizers aren't made of materials much better and it's the size and shape I need. It may look dumb, but it's very functional.
I don't use them much, but I am glad to have them. One reason is that I can have the exact colors and shades I want. Alllll the nice greens. I'd use them a lot, but alcohol markers bleed horribly and don't work on the most of the materials I want to be coloring.
Now, my plan was to go "And the other reason is those amazing skin tones" and post a picture. Buuuut I haven't actually used them to do skin tones since mermay... in 2019?
I did a quick drawing and went to color it with copics but that don't look right:

Maybe first time in 3 years wasn't the best example, but honestly, copic skin tones are amazing. I did that in 5 minutes and the liner pen is a .3.
I do want to use up all my non-Copic alcohol markers, but I've been trying to use up those Sketchbox and Neopiko markers for a while. I de-stashed my Prismacolors and some other brands.
A lot of companies have been trying to de-throne copic, and I am not on top of that enough to know if any others do compare these days. Most of the one I've tried don't, but I've also never used a Spectrum Noir.

Date: 2022-04-11 11:55 am (UTC)From:Huh, the Tombow markers are... tricky. I used them back when I was in school because they don't smell of alcohol (which causes teacher questions LOL) but the tips were always ruined pretty quickly. XD
The best "non Copics" I've used are Ohuhu, which are a pretty exact product copy of the Copic Ciao - I've not been able to tell the difference in the way they handle. XD The Neopiko ones are nice, too, but the tips are a bit harder?!?
I didn't like the Spectrum Noir, they release the ink not quite evenly and I always had blotchy results with those.

Date: 2022-04-12 04:53 am (UTC)From:And I love the boxes-as-organizers. I'm a big fan of using what works, and that looks like it works! (I have way tackier boxes serving as pseudo-organizers in my dresser.)
I've used Copics very rarely but it is a struggle not to want to buy them.

Date: 2022-04-12 10:24 pm (UTC)From:Yeah, they are extremely nice, from the handful of times I've used them. I really would love to use them more... but I'd have to actually... Do Art for that, and it's more than a bit expensive for a "maybe someday" supply hoard. But... maybe someday!
