* My 5 Things Legolas/Gimli story has 1234 kudos:

I was looking at my Ao3 stats and noticed that amusing number.

* I still feel feverish, but my temp is normal. Other than very tired, I feel okay. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll be better. I feel like I am fighting this off, but it still does put a crimp in my plans for the next bit.

* Facebook has decided to show me nothing but ads for het Omegaverse books and now I want the NFT scam ads back.

What a perfect number! :D

I'm glad your fever seems to have resolved, but sorry you're still feeling it. Hope you kick whatever the crud is quickly!

Oh god. I haven't gotten ads for true omegaverse stuff, but it goes through phases where all it wants to give me is terrible het werewolf "erotica" that goes real hard on "alphas" and some trope called "lunas" that are the female partners of the alphas. And all of it is wildly petty girl-hate drama and unsexy porn with weirdly censored words that sounds like a 15 year old wrote it (because I couldn't NOT try to scroll through some of it.)
Come on, it's like they don't know me at all! At least try to sell me on weird QUEER porn.

Ugh, gross.
Some of the weirdass faux-werewolf things have obviously stolen art that treads the line over what I'd think would be allowable on FB, and yet.

I do occasionally get at least a scrap of amusement from how BADLY sites try to advertise to me. Like noticing my queer fiction purchases and deciding that means I want het romance that doesn't even involve any of the same tropes/subgenres. Yes, my paranormal m/m/m ebook purchase *definitely* means I want het military romance. Or worse, "inspirational" Amish romance, lmao. Good job. *eyeroll* That does seem to be where the advertising fail is most obvious, actually.

Doesn't make the "true fulfillment comes from being a tradwife to a Real Man" shit any less gross to get shoved at you.

Ugh, what the shit? That's definitely content that shouldn't be shoved at random people. I don't much care what people are into, whether I like it or not, but having it deliberately pushed as advertisement? Yeah, no.

You'd think that the algorithm would catch on with enough blocks, but of course it never seems to. If anything, it feels like it treats that as some form of engagement and shows MORE.

Definitely right - FB in particular I think categorizes LGBTQIA+ stuff as a "interest" rather than a demographic, so sometimes they'll push rainbow-drenched corporate ads based on that... but they don't treat it like a *demographic*, which creates some hilarious misses in what it tries to advertise. (Even as an "interest", it misses the mark most of the time, because it doesn't seem to take it into consideration as the important aspect of, say, an ebook. It says "oh, that's marked as romance! This other utter garbage is also marked as romance. That's the only part that matters!"

Not that I want the algorithm to advertise to me better - I actually LIKE that my FB has some batshit ideas about what I like and is bad at knowing me. (I clicked on one article about mental health relating to a wrestler who died, and for six weeks I was getting shittons of WWE ads.) But it is sometimes very telling in the specific ways it fails.

FB ads definitely have a MUCH higher absolute scam to legit ad ratio. It's wild.

It may not be intentional that you got those sorts of ads right after, but it DOES feel gross in a lot of ways. It feels like some faceless entity trying to push what you ~should~ want instead, and that IS wildly gross.

I keep meaning to set up more of my stuff on my phone to go through firefox instead of through their various apps. It's basically just FB and tumblr (though I still use Chrome for a fair amount of browsing, because I use Firefox for *different* browsing... but ads just aggravate me more and more. At some point it will be enough for me to ditch the apps. I'm just very lazy, and Firefox on my phone freezes a lot.

I wish that mobile didn't make it so HARD to avoid ads, considering every fucking app under the sun seems to be ad-supported. I should find more workarounds, but instead I tend to just get fed up after too many ads and exit the app, ha.

It's ALWAYS valid to complain about ads. The more effort you go to to avoid them, the more they stand out sometimes. And ads get more and more obtrusive every damn year - I absolutely fucking hate it.
