I kinda want to make a Stranger Things writing discord because I am going to be working on projects for a while and it feels like a lot of other people are. Also, the top kudos'd fic on AO3 for Stranger Things are all Steddie fics. This pairing is not going away. Hits are dropping post-canon, but this pairing is definitely A Thing. But, I don't know how to advertise it. I wouldn't want to post on Tumblr. I tried joining a few via tumblr and it was scary. People deadass talking about wanting to slowly poison characters to death for being vile. I don't want to deal with the tumblr ferals who had no idea how to act. But having a place to chat 80s details, fic concepts and collection resources like the walkthrough video of Eddie's trailer would be fun.

It would be fun, but I have zero faith in my ability to gather even ten people together for it.

Also, whether or not it has readers I tend to stick with pairings. I think I've only ever fully dropped any pairing I was super into. I still write Jeeves/Wooster and Buckaroo Banzai. So, I'll be writing this a while at least.

It's a good ship! I'm glad interest has remained strong so far!

(I wish I had any fic ideas for said ship, because if I did, a server like that would be great!)

But ugh, yeah... I've encountered some iffy shit in servers discovered via tumblr. Or... servers populated by iffy people who also discovered them via tumblr. Eesh.

With another fandom I'd be fine advertising on tumblr, but not this one. The majority of servers I've seen advertised were run by systems and shifters. I ran into shit even on the ones that looked like serious attempts to make a decent one.

Also, while I don't have a problem with it and Byler shipping isn't considered a big deal... I swore off any community running that might involve under-18 ships many a long year ago. So, if I made one it would be only for the Light Brite Bunch and older characters which could lead to drama. Though I guess I could make it Steddie-specific.

Yeah, some fandoms may keep their chill, but I wouldn't count on it with this one, haha.

And yeah... I've noticed a semi-resurgence of that specific thing. The systems and shifters stuff. Which I'm pretty whatever about, except that there's unfortunately a LOT of extra drama in my experience, and that is the last thing I want in a server or a group.

I don't blame you for that boundary either. I don't really care about people shipping the kids or whatever, but being in charge of running or modding a community about it opens up into shit to get weird. Or again, drama.

Something ship-specific could be fine, though.

Specifically the way I need to engage in the content to do mod decisions is unpleasant, doubly so if people are trolling. I just don't want to deal anymore, especially with some people upset at the Eddie/Chrissy ship because Chrissy could theoretically been a month shy of 18.

Dealing with fandoms with underage ships was deeply unpleasant before the sheer paranoia around it these days

Oh absolutely. Good moderation means having to potentially deal with a lot of pretty unpleasant shit, *especially* when it can be things specifically designed to be upsetting or terrible.

And uuuuugh, the current wave of garbage "age gaps of one or two years is basically the same as pedophilia" is just fucking ridiculous and obnoxious. Yeah, it was bad enough (or at least messy enough to deal with) before, but just made a thousand times worse by the purity culture garbage.
