* Tumblr has added features to filter NSFW content. Does this mean a return of NSFW to the platform? We just don't know, and they might not either. I think they are seeing if these tools will fly with the Apple App Store.
Something that drives me nuts every day is that on the earlier days of the internet, major sites had ways to separate out NSFW. It's simple. Easy peasy. But things are so messed up that... [insert long ramble here about modern sites shoving unwanted porn in my face while claiming to be family friendly, with a discussion about how desperate people are to promote themselves as adult artists on trending tags on twitter because if they can get a following, Only Fans is a big payday in a world where most people expect to see diminishing quality of life]
Anyway, if this works as hoped, this could make another sane place online where I am not dodging explict live action het porn gifs.
* New Folding Ideas video! It's a good scam video, more in depth that most which is what I expect from Dan Olsen, but... either I am just more familiar with this topic or it's not quite as groundbreaking as a lot of his other stuff. Still a good watch to see how scams are layered on scams.

Date: 2022-09-29 05:05 am (UTC)From:Once upon a time, it was easy to have an "adult" section of any given site AND THAT WAS FINE.
Now it's all about app store regulations and advertiser-friendliness and payment processor requirements... plus so many misguided "think of the children" laws.
I am an adult who would like to access adult material of my choosing without having adult material NOT of my choosing forced at my eyeballs, thanks. While also not having to deal with blanket "NSFW" bans that wind up targeting certain demographics for enforcement or having reporting weaponized as harassment.
I at least have some hope about what comes from these community labels for tumblr. Even if it doesn't reverse the porn ban, I hope it relaxes some of the rules that are currently in place.
I'll have to add that to my watch-later. I feel like I know quite a lot about how scams work, but still sounds like an interesting thing to listen to him explore in-depth.

Date: 2022-09-30 03:31 am (UTC)From:(Much like people who want "morally bad" content to not be tagged. Like... if you don't want it tagged, the content will happen, but it'll be UNTAGGED, and you won't even have a warning. I feel like that is not better.)
I deeply wish tumblr would return to sanity. I miss saner tumblr.
